Resumo
A leptospirose é uma zoonose reemergente e mundialmente disseminada,
revelando uma elevada importância tanto a nível da saúde animal e humana, como a nível
económico. Nos bovinos é reconhecida como causa de perdas reprodutivas significativas,
mas também pode apresentar outras manifestações clínicas não reprodutivas,
nomeadamente em vitelos.
Este relatório de estágio foi realizado no âmbito da conclusão do curso de
Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades
e Tecnologias. Engloba uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema da leptospirose bovina e
a apresentação de oito casos clínicos acompanhados em três explorações bovinas durante
o estágio curricular realizado na RCVet – Serviços e Consultadoria Veterinária, em
Portalegre.
Os casos ocorreram unicamente em vitelos de 1 a 3 meses de idade, que se
apresentaram com morte súbita. Para o diagnóstico de leptospirose procedeu-se à
necrópsia dos vitelos, tendo-se registado as seguintes alterações mais comuns: icterícia,
zonas congestivas e hiperémicas, urina com coloração vermelha escura.
Os casos foram confirmados com a recolha de amostras de quatro vitelos, das
quais uma foi submetida a serologia, através do Teste de Aglutinação Microscópica, e as
restantes foram submetidas a PCR em tempo real direcionado para gene lipL32.
No maneio das três explorações foram implementadas a vacinação e antibioterapia
metafiláticas bem como medidas de controlo ambiental. Tendo sido possível o controlo
da doença nas três explorações.
Leptospirosis is a reemerging and globally disseminated zoonosis, revealing a high importance both in animal and human health, as well as at economic level. In cattle it is recognized as a cause of significant reproductive losses, but may also present other non-reproductive clinical manifestations, particularly in calves. This internship report was carried out within the scope of the conclusion of the Integrated Master's in Veterinary Medicine at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias. It includes a literature review on the subject of bovine leptospirosis and the presentation of eight clinical cases followed up in three bovine farms during the curricular internship held at RCVet - Serviços e Consultadoria Veterinária, in Portalegre. These cases occurred only in calves, from one to three months of age, who presented with sudden death. For the diagnosis of leptospirosis, calves were necropsied, and the following most common changes were recorded: jaundice, congestive and hyperemic signs, dark red-coloured urine. The cases were confirmed by the collection of samples from four calves, of which one was submitted to serology, through Microscopical Agglutination Test, and the others were submitted to real-time PCR directed to the lipL32 gene. In the management of the three farms, vaccination and metaphylactic antibiotic therapy were implemented, as well as environmental control measures. It was possible to control the disease in the three farms.
