The suspensory desmitis is one of the most common lesions in sport horses. Some of these horses will not return to previous performance levels or will retire due to the extension of this pathology. Beyond the pain and the lesion itself, this pathology has a high importance considering the suspensory ligament function as support of the metacarpophalangeal/metatarsophalangeal joint. The aim of this study was to analyse objectively the alterations in the suspensory apparatus of horses with and without suspensory desmitis through angular kinematic analysis. For this purpose, twenty-two horses were filmed, in walk and trot, with markers on the hind limbs. Five of these horses had suspensory desmitis and seventeen had no known injury. Subsequently, the videos were analysed using the programs Kinovea, DigitizeXY and Excel. In the study it was observed an improvement in the asymmetry index in the pathological horses after treatment/anaesthetic blocks. It was also observed lower fetlock angles in the healthy limb and higher in the suspensory demistis limb. It was concluded that the angular kinematic analysis method used in this study is reliable and it could be applied in future studies.
