Resumo
O artigo pretende apresentar uma proposta de análise da obra de Fialho de Almeida, tendo por escopo destacar hermeneuticamente a sua função de crítica social. As mentalidades, os comportamentos, as figuras e classes sociais são tratadas na literatura fialhiana como tipos e como expressão de um tempo que é lido à luz do mito da decadência portuguesa que, no final do século XIX e princípios do século XX, conheceu o seu auge, tendo modelado uma visão do passado e questionado fortemente a viabilidade de Portugal como país capaz de garantir uma existência autónoma no curso da história da humanidade.
The paper aims to present a proposal to analyze the work of Fialho de Almeida, with the purpose to highlight, hermeneutically, its role and identity of social criticism. The attitudes, behaviors, and social class figures and types are treated in the Fialho’s literature as types and an expression of a time that is read in light of the myth that the portuguese decadence in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, met its herpeak, having fashioned a vision of the past and strongly questioned the viability of Portugal as a country capable of independent existence in the course of human history.
