Resumo
A dissertação pretende caracterizar a gestão de resíduos produzidos nos mercados municipais do concelho do Barreiro, identificando as principais dificuldades associadas à recolha selectiva de resíduos e apresentando sugestões para a sua implementação nos mercados do concelho.
A metodologia adoptada para o desenvolvimento do trabalho baseou-se em pesquisa bibliográfica, casos de estudo relacionados com outros mercados e supermercados e trabalho de campo. Este decorreu entre Março e Setembro de 2013 e consistiu no levantamento da gestão de resíduos produzidos nos mercados e na realização de questionários aos concessionários e funcionários dos mercados municipais, para recolha de opiniões e sugestões sobre a futura possibilidade de separação e deposição/recolha selectiva de resíduos nestes mercados.
Como resultado, propõe-se que as estratégias a implementar sejam baseadas principalmente na separação de resíduos na fonte, na deposição e recolha selectiva para reciclagem/valorização e na sensibilização de todos intervenientes (concessionários, funcionários e utentes), tendo como finalidade que a gestão de resíduos nos mercados municipais cumpra o estipulado na hierarquia de gestão de resíduos da União Europeia.

The dissertation aims to characterize the management of municipal waste produced in the markets in the county of Barreiro, identifying the main difficulties associated with selective waste collection and making suggestions for its implementation in the county markets. As a result, it is proposed that the strategies to be implemented be mainly based on the separation of waste at the source, deposition and collection point for recycling / recovery and awareness of all interveners (dealers, employees and users), with the purpose that the management of the waste in municipal markets fulfill the stipulations of the waste management hierarchy of the European Union.
