Deteção de dermanyssus gallinae (de geer, 1778) em aves exóticas de companhia no distrito de Setúbal, Portugal

Abstract

As aves exóticas de companhia podem ser infetadas por várias espécies de ectoparasitas, entre os quais o ácaro zoonótico Dermanyssus gallinae. A informação sobre este ácaro em aves exóticas em Portugal é escassa, à semelhança do resto da Europa. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo geral determinar a prevalência de D. gallinae em aves exóticas de companhia, constituindo também uma excelente oportunidade para estudar a fauna ectoparasitária destas aves. No total foram amostradas 217 aves exóticas do Distrito de Setúbal, das espécies Serinus canaria, Taeniopygia guttata, Neochmia ruficauda, Poephila acuticauda, Chloebia gouldiae, Lonchura striata domestica, Melopsittacus undulatus, Nymphicus hollandicus, Agapornis spp., Psittacus erithacus, Neophema bourkii e Psittacula krameri. A pesquisa de artrópodes foi efetuada em zaragatoas e raspagens cutâneas, penas e armadilhas. Dermanyssus foi identificado ao nível do género em 7,83% das aves, nomeadamente S. canaria, L. striata domestica, C. gouldiae, T. guttata e Agapornis spp. Outras ectoparasitas identificados incluíram Ornithonyssus sylviarum, Ornithonyssus spp., Menacanthus eurysternus, Menacanthus spp., Dubininia spp., Proctophyllodes spp., Nymphicilichus perezea, Sideroferus lunula e Knemidocoptes spp. A identificação de Dermanyssus e Ornithonyssus em diversas aves em contacto com o ser humano sublinha a necessidade de sensibilizar médicos veterinários e criadores para estes agentes zoonóticos, promovendo assim o seu combate.

Exotic companion birds can be infected by several species of ectoparasites, including the zoonotic mite Dermanyssus gallinae. Information on this mite in exotic birds in Portugal is scarce, like in the rest of Europe. This study was conducted in order to determine the prevalence of D. gallinae in exotic pet birds and also represented an excellent opportunity to study the ectoparasitic fauna of these birds. We sampled a total of 217 exotic birds from the Setúbal district: Serinus canaria, Taeniopygia guttata, Neochmia ruficauda, Poephila acuticauda, Chloebia gouldiae, Lonchura striata domestica, Melopsittacus undulatus, Nymphicus hollandicus, Agapornis spp., Psittacus erithacus, Neophema bourkii and Psittacula krameri. The survey of arthropods was performed using skin swabs, skin scrapings, feathers and traps. Dermanyssus was identified at the genus level in 7.83% birds, namely S. canaria, L. striata domestica, C. gouldiae, T. guttata and Agapornis spp. Other ectoparasites identified included Ornithonyssus sylviarum, Ornithonyssus spp., Menacanthus eurysternus, Menacanthus spp., Dubininia spp., Proctophyllodes spp., Nymphicilichus perezea, Sideroferus lunula and Knemidocoptes spp. The finding of Dermanyssus and Ornithonyssus in several birds in close contact with humans underlines the need to increase the awareness of these zoonotic mites among veterinarians and breeders, thus promoting the combat of this parasitosis.
