Esta dissertação pretende refletir sobre a dimensão urbana do processo de projeto em arquitetura. A reflexão estrutura-se em torno do projeto para uma residência de estudantes na Alameda das Fontainhas. A dissertação é dividida em duas partes fundamentais: a primeira centra-se na análise e contextualização urbana, a segunda refere-se à análise das diferentes propostas de projeto desenvolvidas até chegar à solução final. O primeiro capítulo, após a ‘Introdução’, fornece uma análise de parte da cidade do Porto, as Fontainhas, através de mapas. A análise coloca em evidência as características urbanas e arquitetónicas desta zona da cidade do Porto, as transformações sofridas na Alameda das Fontainhas e na Escarpa dos Guindais, mostrando a relevância do Passeio das Fontainhas. De seguida, analisa-se o processo de projeto com um enfoque nas quatro propostas de Residência de Estudantes. Para esta análise dividiu-se o projeto em duas vertentes: uma solução projetual constituída por um único edifício e uma solução constituída por dois edifícios distintos. A grelha de análise da situação existente e das duas vertentes do projeto é a mesma, abordando o espaço público e o edificado. A análise das soluções projetuais inclui a remodelação da Alameda das Fontainhas, a forma e volumetria do edificado, os alçados e o acesso ao edifício e, por fim, as células de habitação. No decorrer da apresentação das diferentes propostas reflete-se sobre as principais problemáticas encontradas, e sobre as razões para as diversas alterações ao longo do processo até a solução final.

This dissertation aims at reflecting on the urban dimension of the design process in architecture. The reflection is structured around a student’s residence at Alameda das Fontainhas. The dissertation has two main parts, the first addressing the urban analysis, the second focusing on the different design proposals until the final project. The first chapter, after ‘Introduction’, offers an analysis of part of Porto, Fontainhas, through maps. The analysis makes evident the urban and architectural characteristics of this area of the city of Porto, the transformation of Alameda das Fontainhas and Escarpa dos Guindais, highlighting the relevance of Passeio das Fontainhas. The second chapter analyses the design process, with a focus on the urban dimension of the four proposals for the student’s residence. For this analysis, the project is divided in two strands, one design proposal made of one building and one proposal made of two buildings. The analytical framework for the extant situation and two strands of the project is the same, addressing the public space and buildings. The analysis of the two strands includes the redesign of Alameda das Fontainhas, the building’s form and volume, the façades and access to the building and, finally, the residence cells. During the presentation of the different proposals, the dissertation reflects on the main problems, and on the reasons for the successive changes until the final design.
