A língua inglesa no ensino médio : verificando a aplicação da abordagem comunicativa

Abstract

O presente trabalho identifica o uso da Abordagem Comunicativa em uma escola de idiomas, e verifica se ocorre o uso dessa abordagem pelos professores de língua inglesa em uma escola pública. A pesquisa caracteriza alguns aspectos, como a metodologia empregada, as condições oferecidas no cotidiano escolar, bem como os métodos e as técnicas aplicadas no contexto de sala de aula. Escolhemos para execução do trabalho de campo os alunos do terceiro ano do ensino médio de uma escola da rede estadual de ensino e alunos do nível intermediário de uma escola de idiomas, da cidade de Patos onde se realizou a pesquisa exploratória. Foram consultados professores, alunos, documentos oficiais, além da literatura que aborda a temática. Os resultados mostram que o ensino da língua estrangeira na esfera pública ainda tem um longo caminho a percorrer, pois embora o objetivo colocado para o ensino de Línguas Estrangeiras no ensino médio pelos Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais seja a aquisição da competência comunicativa, as condições oferecidas são inviáveis, dificultando assim essa aquisição e pouco contribuindo para a formação dos alunos. Constata-se que a não aplicação da Abordagem Comunicativa tem dificultado a preparação dos alunos para o uso da língua estrangeira, como um meio de aproximação de culturas e um elo eficaz de integração em um mundo globalizado.

The present work identifies the use of the Communicative Approach in a language school, and verifies if it is used by the teachers of English in a public school. The research characterizes some aspects such as the methodology used, the conditions provided in the school routine, as well as the methods and techniques applied in the classroom context. To perform our field work we chose the students attending the third year of high school from a state school and intermediate students from a language school in the municipality of Patos, where our exploratory research was carried out. The teachers, the students and the official documents as well as the literature which addresses the topic were consulted. The results show that the foreign language teaching at the public school still needs to be improved, for although the purpose of the Foreign Languages teaching for high schools as established by the Brazilian Curricular Parameters is the acquisition of the communicative competence, the conditions provided are not viable, hindering the acquisition of the language and contributing little to the students formation. It was verified that the non-application of this approach has hampered the preparation of students to use the foreign language as a mean of rapprochement of cultures and an effective integration link in a globalized world.
