Causas de enucleação em cães: estudo retrospetivo

dc.description.abstractIntrodução. O estudo retrospetivo realizado teve como objetivo descrever os diagnósticos clínicos e histopatológicos que levam à cirurgia de enucleação em cães. Materiais e métodos. A amostra estudada compreendeu 18 canídeos. Foram consideradas variáveis em estudo a idade, raça, sexo, diagnóstico clínico, diagnóstico histopatológico, técnica cirúrgica, período de recuperação e complicações pós-cirúrgicas. Os dados do estudo foram recolhidos aquando estágio curricular no Hospital Veterinário do Restelo, no período de 12/05/2020 a 12/04/2021, no âmbito da conclusão do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias. Resultados. Os diagnósticos clínicos que levaram à enucleação com maior frequência foram glaucoma secundário (50% 9/18), perfuração de córnea (22%, 4/18), queratite associada a parésia do nervo facial e endoftalmite, respetivamente afetando (11%, 2/18). Raça mais comum a ser intervencionada foi raça indeterminada (SRD) (32%, 6/18), mas havendo uma prevalência de raças braquicéfalas a ser intervencionadas. 8 dos 18 olhos enucleados ( 44%) foram enviados para exame histopatológico, e os achados mais frequentes foram glaucoma secundário (50%, 4/8) e uveíte (25%, 2/8). Conclusão. A partir do estudo realizado observou-se que as causas mais comuns para enucleação foram glaucoma secundário e perfuração de córnea, existindo uma maior susceptibilidade em raças braquicéfalas, e dos olhos enviados para exame histopatológico os achados histopatológicos mais comuns foram glaucoma secundário e uveíte. dc.description.abstractIntroduction. The retrospective study carried out aimed to describe the clinical and histopathological diagnoses that lead to enucleation surgery in dogs. Materials and methods. The studied sample comprised 18 canimes. The study considered variables such as age, breed, sex, clinical diagnosis, histopathological diagnosis, surgical technique, recovery period and post-surgical complications. The study data were collected during a curricular internship at the Hospital Veterinário do Restelo, from 12/05/2020 to 12/04/2021, as part of the completion of the Integrated Master's Degree m Veterinary Medicine at the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies. Results. The clinical diagnoses that most frequently led to enucleation were secondary glaucoma (50% 9/18), corneal perforation (22%, 4/18), keratitis associated with facial nerve paresis and endophthalmitis, respectively affecting (11%, 2/18). Most common breed to be intervened was indeterminate breed (SRD) (32%, 6/18), but there was a prevalence of brachycephalic breeds to be intervened. Of the 8 animals undergomg histopathology (44%), the most frequent histopathological findings were secondary glaucoma (50%, 4/8) and uveitis (25%, 2/8). Conclusion. From the study performed, it was observed that the most common causes for enucleation were secondary glaucoma and corneal perforation, with a greater susceptibility in brachycephalic breeds, and the most common histopathological findings were secondary glaucoma and uveitis.
