The occurrence of episodes of feline dysuria is a matter of most importance in small animal clinical practice because it is a condition that requires a fast semiotic evaluation and therapeutic resolution in order not only to meet the expectations of the owners, who cannot tolerate observing their animal in those circumstances, but above all, to revert in due time a metabolic imbalance that can sometimes be fatal. By obtaining the history and clinical signs of the animal, the neutering condition is a predominant factor due to the known association between castration and the incidence of lower urinary tract disorders. A sample of 1262 male cats was statistically scrutinized according to the fertility status variable, with one group of castrated animals (n = 754) and one group of intact males (n = 508) and, as an additional variable, the mode of indoor life (n = 1229) or outdoor (n = 33). The occurrence studied was the prevalence of urinary obstruction. The objective of the study was to reproduce in the medical history of a veterinary medical center the same results as the published data on the correlation between orchiectomy and lifestyle on the prevalence of urethral obstruction in male cats. In the group of castrated cats this prevalence rose significantly. The results obtained corresponded to the expectations of the census, which tried to reproduce in the sample the expected statistical trend already known. The volume and distribution of the sample, regarding the reproductive (sterilized vs. non-sterile) state, allows to affirm that there is a significant and positive relationship between the surgical castration of cats and their probability of suffering an episode of urethral obstruction.
