In recent decades the transformations recommended in commercial aviation have been with regard to technological level or the growth of air transport have led to significant changes in the relationship between those who perform management functions and their employees. Thus, this study aims to identify which or what styles of leadership and communication a leader must exercise to satisfy and lead to an extraordinary effort of members of his team, namely when it comes to teams subject to high levels of stress such as airline pilots. To materialize the objective of this study, the quantitative method was used by applying a questionnaire with questions closed to a sample of 105 Airline pilots members of the Association of Portuguese Airline Pilots. The results conclude that the participatory leadership style presents for the various independent variables (age, gender, academic degree and professional situation) as the most used by Commanders/Airline Pilots being valued by the other team members resembling that interpreted by other researchers. On the other hand, from our data we also realize that there are no significant differences in the way pilots of different age groups, gender, academic degree and professional situation practice leadership and communication styles. We also realize that there are no significant differences in the way pilots of different age groups, gender, academic degree and professional situation practice communication styles, and the most valued is the assertive style. In short, participatory leadership style and assertive communication style are understood by airline pilots as the ones who contribute the most to promoting the extraordinary effort and satisfaction of team members.
