Resumo
A presente dissertação de Mestrado tem como tema a reabilitação de edifícios que
constituem património cultural urbano. Nesse âmbito, são exploradas as possibilidades
de harmonizar as necessidades da vida contemporânea com o objetivo de preservar a
memória das cidades antigas.
O objeto principal do estudo é um prédio pombalino na Rua Serpa Pinto, n.º 5, em
Lisboa, para permitir testar uma metodologia de projeto arquitetónico adaptado ao
restauro e à reabilitação desta tipologia de edifícios.
O estudo reflete sobre as características essenciais da arquitetura pombalina e
verifica em que medida o edifício estudado ainda apresenta valores de autenticidade e
integridade.
São estudadas as características arquitetónicas, históricas e estéticas e o estado de
conservação deste imóvel como base de conhecimento para poder propor uma estratégia
de projeto arquitetónico de reabilitação.
A estratégia de projeto apresentada responde à questão fundamental desta
investigação que é a de saber se é possível conciliar a salvaguarda do património
arquitetónico urbano com as exigências da vida atual.

This Master's thesis addresses the issue of rehabilitation of urban cultural heritage. In this context, the possibilities of harmonizing the needs of contemporary life with the aim of preserving the memory of ancient cities are explored. The main object of the study is a Pombaline building at Serpa Pinto street, in Lisbon, to allow testing an architectural design methodology adapted to the restoration and rehabilitation of this type of building. The study reflects on the essential characteristics of Pombaline architecture and verifies to what extent the studied building still presents values of authenticity and integrity. The architectural, historical and aesthetic characteristics and the state of conservation of this property are studied as a knowledge base to be able to propose an architectural rehabilitation project strategy. The project strategy presented responds to the fundamental question of this investigation, which is whether it is possible to reconcile the safeguarding of the urban architectural heritage with the demands of today's life.
