In our societies, intimacy, love and sexuality play a part in building a subjective sense of identity and in the edification of interpersonal relationships. From then on, knowing sentimental and/or erotic experiences is a legitimate plan to develop oneself as a subject and as a social person. But, what about physical disabled people, who are dependent of others for everyday life and forced to live in specialised institutions? Aren’t they de facto excluded? In these conditions, how do they express their wishes, how are they understood and taken into account by professionals? In order to better comprehend what facilitates or obstructs access to intimacy, love and sexual life for these people, our article relies on a research conducted with them and with caring professionals and is firmly based on a bio-psycho-social approach of disability. Disabled people’s speeches collected during focus groups and professionals’ speeches collected during supervision groups allow us to show that barriers are still numerous and that professionals are not facilitating access to love and sexual life for people they are daily working with.
