Gender Theory Questionnaire (Coleman & Hong, 2008), Identily Centrality (Leach et
intimidade.
The present study aimed to understand the extent and forms of women represent gender, and how a less traditional scheme is associated with a greater perception of transgression, as well as to perceive the association between a scheme of transgression and conflict in intimate relationships. We look at conflict not as exclusive to women, but rather to conflict in intimate relationships. In this way, we start from a bidirectional look at the phenomenon. The sample consisted of 79 Brazilian immigrant women, aged between 30 and 49 years (M = 40.82, DP = 10.625). The instruments applied were: Gender Essentialism. Gender Theory Questionnaire (Coleman & Hong, 2008), Gender Centrality in Identity – Identily Centrality (Leach et al., 2008), Projective Scenarios - (CHAVD; J. Cabral, B. Pereira, & A. Oliveira, 2017), Gender Identity Male Inventory of Self-Concept Gender Schemes (IMEGA) (Giavani & Tamayo, 2003). The results revealed a statistically positive correlation between the egocentrism trait, associated with the male scheme, and the sensitivity to transgression in couple interactions. It means that, women whose scheme is of transgression, identify and react more emotionally to conflicts that are associated with gender transgressions and to consider that these conflicts should not be ignored. It was also found that women who build their gender scheme in a way that is less traditional, are more sensitive to detect the transgressions that happen in interactions, and therefore react more emotionally to them. They are more likely to develop conflicts in their interpersonal relationships. Thus, the greater the sensitivity to gender transgressions, the greater the dissatisfaction and consequently the greater the conflict they experience in their intimate relationships.
