Anxiety and Stress Scale-21, o World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule-12
e o World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref.
Neurodegenerative diseases (ND) have affected a growing number of individuals worldwide, causing significant impairments and limitations in the lives of these individuals. The negative impact and high comorbidity of these chronic diseases with depression emphasize the relevance of studying the impact of these variables on patients' quality of life (QL). This work aimed to test a predictive model of the impact of potential predictors, such as neuropathic pain, fatigue, disability, and depression on QL in people with ND. This exploratory cross-sectional study was performed on samples from the general population (n = 198) and from the clinical population (n = 93), without neurological diseases. Several self-response instruments were administered: analogue fatigue and pain scales, the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21, the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule-12 and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Bref. The predictive model tested in the clinical group explained 49.2% of the QL variance, retaining depressive symptoms as a significant predictor. The present study makes a relevant contribution to clinical practice and research, contributing to deepen and suppress the lack of scientific knowledge about risk factors in quality of life in people with ND.
