A presente investigação teve o objetivo de analisar a relação entre o pensamento e o
comportamento pedagógico do treinador de tênis, a partir de seus relatos e das observações de
suas ações durante a sessão de treino, com o intuito de evidenciar o que ocorre entre o discurso
e a prática.
Trata-se de um estudo de caso baseado no modelo descritivo e na abordagem qualitativa,
cuja mostra foi constituída por 14 treinadores de tênis expert em treinamento de atletas juvenis
da Zona Oeste do município do Rio de Janeiro.
Para obtenção das informações, relativas ao pensamento do treinador, foi utilizada uma
entrevista semiestruturada composta por seis objetos de investigação e, para o comportamento
do treinador, foi aplicada a observação em diferido, que significa uma análise posterior das
intervenções pedagógicas do treinador de tênis no contexto real, por meio de áudio e vídeo.
Os resultados do estudo revelaram que grande parte das intervenções pedagógicas dos
treinadores nas sessões de treino apresentou congruência entre o discurso. Todavia, em alguns
temas fundamentais para o desenvolvimento da carreira dos atletas juvenis, foi observada a
divergência entre o discurso e a ação pedagógica dos treinadores.

The present study aims to analyze the relationship between a tennis coach’s thinking and their pedagogical behavior, based on their reports and the observations of their actions during a training session, with the purpose of highlighting what happens between the discourse and the practice. This work is a case study grounded on the descriptive model and the qualitative approach. Its sample consisted of 14 tennis coaches who are expert on training youth athletes from the West Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. To obtain information regarding the coach’s thinking, a semi-structured interview comprised of six research subjects was carried out. For the coach’s behavior, the research counted on the application of a deferred observation, which means a subsequent analysis of the tennis coach’s pedagogical interventions in the real context, through audio and video. The results of the study revealed that most of the coaches’ pedagogical interventions in the training sessions presented congruence with the discourse. However, in some topics that are fundamental to the development of the youth athletes’ career, it was observed the divergence between the coaches’ discourse and their pedagogical action.
