Gestuar a História: terminologia específica e interpretação em língua gestual portuguesa

A língua gestual é o meio de comunicação natural da comunidade surda de cada país. Em Portugal comunicam através da Língua Gestual Portuguesa (LGP). A partir desta língua espácio-visual, produzida pelas mãos e recebida pelos olhos, os surdos acedem à informação e, em 1997, passou a ser reconhecida na Constituição Portuguesa como instrumento de acesso à educação. Esta língua passou por um período conturbado a partir de 1880, com o Congresso de Milão, do qual resultou a sua proibição nas escolas até grande parte do século XX. Em 1960 William Stokoe veio provar, num trabalho pioneiro, o estatuto linguístico das línguas gestuais como uma língua com parâmetros gramaticais à semelhança de outras línguas, o que constituiu um passo importante para a reintegração da LGP no ensino português. Este tempo de interregno em que subsistiu o oralismo no ensino foi decisivo para que a terminologia específica em LGP, das várias áreas inseridas no currículo nacional, nomeadamente a História, não se tenha desenvolvido tanto em contexto educativo como cultural.
Neste trabalho apresentamos técnicas de tradução/interpretação facilitadoras na transmissão de conhecimentos no âmbito da História através das quais se pretende fazer passar os conceitos terminológicos inexistentes em LGP e analisamos também um caminho possível a percorrer em busca de alcançar equivalentes terminológicos gestuais.
Sign Language is the natural language that deaf community from different countries use to communicate. Therefore the Portuguese deaf community communicates through Portuguese Sign Language (PSL). Through this spacial visual language, produced by hands and received by eyes, deaf people access information and in 1997 this language was acknowledged in the Portuguese Constitution as the instrument to access education. This language has had a troubled existence since 1880 with the Milan's Congress from which resulted the prohibition of its use in schools during great part of the XX century. In 1960 Wiiliam Stokoe demonstrated with a pioneer investigation the linguistic parameters of sign languages, a language with grammatical rules like all other languages; this has constituted a major step to the reintegration of PSL in the Portuguese educational system. The period of time where oralism subsisted in the educational system was fundamental to the lack of specific terminology in the educational and cultural's context in PSL in all areas of national curricula and therefore History. In this dissertation we observe translation/interpretation technics that enable the knowledge transmission in what concerns History, through which is possible to communicate the non-existent terminological concepts in PSL and we analyse possible ways to reach for specific terminology in PSL.
