Wetlands have been suffering environmental degradation in various parts of the world, and depending on human activity, it occurs with greater or lesser intensity. The enormous complexity of wetland ecosystems offers a vast natural heritage and results in a vast system of functions and interests essential to life, making them a fundamental asset to be preserved and promoted at the highest level. The work aimed to identify and characterize the origins of water and anthropogenic pressures in its hydrosome. The study included analyzes such as: microbiological, classical geochemistry, isotopic and sedimentological geochemistry. The work carried out included field studies with data analysis on the hydrological and environmental behavior of a wetland called Paul de Manique do Intendente. The Paul de Manique do Intendente is located in the village of Manique do Intendente, belonging to the Union of Parishes of Manique do Intendente, Vila Nova de São Pedro and Maçussa of the Azambuja municipality, district of Lisbon, mostly on the right bank of the Tagus River, its territory is part of Lezíria do Tejo. The village of Manique do Intendente is located in a valley with little hilly terrain, in the south of the village there is a small watercourse called Ribeira do Judeu. The Paul de Manique do Intendente is an ecosystem, which consists of a natural wetland of fresh water, located in an alluvial plain, split by ditches, which form a confusing mesh and register a high variation in the water level throughout the year. It is divided by a line of water called Ribeira do Judeu and runs to the East. The Paul is flooded due to floods and partially dries up when the water recedes in summer, creating large areas for cultivation. Taking into account the information in the Rios Project report, in 1993 this Paul did not exist, as it had been replaced by fields dedicated to agriculture, and for some years now, nature is restoring it in a natural way. For many years this wetland has been an important site, retaining alluvial particles carried by the Tagus River, thus creating an extremely fertile area that contributes in some way to the economic development of this area. It is currently visited by numerous species of avifauna, especially migratory birds that attract ornithologists. The objectives of this study were defined: Identify and characterize the contribution of different sources to the hydrosome of the Paul de Manique do Intendente, as well as the pressures anthropogenic species affecting the system that contribute to the conservation and environmental management of this wetland; perception about the usefulness and state of conservation of the marsh; management responsibility; actions necessary for your protection; risks, as well as possible sources of pollution and future expectations. During the preparation of this dissertation, some campaigns and fieldwork were carried out to elevate Paul to the category of nature reserve, such as: - Monitoring of water quality, carried out by undergraduate students at ULHT, in which it was concluded that using this water for bathing or irrigation purposes may have negative effects on the health of people who use and/or consume for crops produced on land surrounding the Paul de Manique. (Trindade, et al., 2019). - Based on the analyzes carried out in this study, it was concluded that most of the sites analyzed presented values outside the limits established by Decree-Law 236/98 of August 1st and Decree-Law 113/2012 of May 23rd for waters of watering and bathing purposes. Physical-chemical analyzes show unsatisfactory results for irrigation water and bathing purposes. The same was true for microbiological parameters, with the highest number of non-compliances occurring for total coliforms and fecal enterococci. As for the reconnaissance of the subsoil, surveys were carried out that provided very important information about the sediments, water table, capacity that the subsoil has to withstand load and the behavior it will have when receiving the load. With the completion of this and several other works that are being carried out, it is expected that this Paul will be classified as a nature reserve and its integration into the network of protected areas of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests - ICNF - project led by the University Lusophone and has as partners the Azambuja Chamber, the Parish Union of Manique do Intendente, Vila Nova de São Pedro and Maçussa, the Grouping
