Paratuberculosis, a chronic infectious disease, affects mainly as species of ruminants and presents itself as a disease difficult to control, both in an environment and in herds. An epidemiological screening was carried out to determine the seroprevalence of the Paratuberculosis agent, Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis, in goat herds in Beira Interior, in order to calculate the prevalence of positive explorations as well as the veterinarian's assertiveness in the diagnosis of the disease based on the clinical and epidemiological history. A sample was selected from 16 farms from which blood samples were taken to be analyzed using a commercial ELISA test for anti-Map antibodies. A prevalence of 56.2% was found. Based on the clinical and epidemiological history of the farms, a sample of 15 farms that integrated the clinical and epidemiological standard of Paratuberculosis was selected, of which 14 farms had a positive result in the ELISA test (93.3%). Given the high impact of Paratuberculosis on animal health, revealing therefore a collateral economic impact as also a possible zoonotic character, make the disease a control objective. The long subclinical periods of the disease, resistance in the environment, ability to infect a variety of species of living beings characterize Map in a microorganism that is difficult to control.
