Resumo
O artesanato é uma atividade que pode ser analisada nas suas dimensões histórica, económica, social, cultural e ambiental. Está ligada ao setor do turismo, possuindo assim, grande potencial na geração de renda para região que o desenvolve. Tendo em conta esse aspeto podemos dizer que é uma atividade que está em conformidade com as estratégias/alternativas para desenvolvimento local.
Com esse intuito, este estudo procura analisar o papel do turismo cultural na ilha de Santiago, tendo como o estudo de caso o artesanato.
Portanto, o objectivo principal é analisar como o turismo pode contribuir na preservação e valorização do artesanato da ilha de Santiago e também analisar a relação entre turismo, a cultura, e a contribuição da comunidade local na preservação do saber-fazer cultural tradicional da ilha. Foi utilizada uma análise qualitativa complementada por uma análise quantitativa. Aplicaram-se 120 questionários aos cidadãos de Santiago.

We used a qualitative analysis as a quantitative analysis. We applied 120 inquiries to the population of Santiago.
