Mutabilidade e evolução urbana : Largo 5 de Outubro no Centro Histórico de Leiria

Abstract

As cidades portuguesas, que passaram, durante o século XX, por processos de crescimento acelerado, estão atualmente a voltar-se sobre si próprias procurando melhorar a qualidade de vida da população que nelas habita, trabalha ou simplesmente visita as suas estruturas urbanas consolidadas. Neste trabalho, tomamos como área de investigação o Largo 5 de Outubro em Leiria, para estudar a evolução urbanística da cidade e os impulsos que provocaram as mudanças, refletindo e debatendo sobre a mutabilidade da estrutura urbana, como forma de alicerçar as novas ideias de conservação da cidade histórica. Existe uma normal alteração dos hábitos dos cidadãos ao longo do tempo e, portanto, torna-se importante que o espaço em que vivem evolua respondendo de forma positiva às novas realidades sociais. Deste modo, apoiados na história e na análise dos diferentes elementos que compõem o espaço urbano do Largo 5 de Outubro, procuramos identificar os elementos com maior capacidade de resistir às alterações futuras.

Portuguese cities, that all over the 20th century, handled processes of accelerated growth are now turning to themselves searching to improve the quality of life of the population that lives, works there and even for the ones who visits its urban consolidated structures. In this article, we use as research area the Largo 5 outubro in Leiria to study the urban evolution of the city and the impulses that are the reasons for the changes, reflecting and debating about the mutability of the urban structure as a way of substantiating the new ideas of conservation of this historical city. There is a normal alteration of the costumes of the citizens and, because of that, turns to be importante that the space, where they live, evolves answering in a positive way to the new social realities. In the same way, supported by the history and analysis of the different elements that comprise the wide urban space, we performed this study to understand which are the elements with greater ability to withstand future changes.
