O estudo e
The care and treatment of orthopedic pathologies is part of the routine of the pet clinic. Among the main complaints of tutors and motivation to seek veterinary medical services, are the traumas. Traumatisms of the osteoarticular system present high incidence in medicine of pets, existing several types of clinical presentation. This great diversity of lesions demands from the veterinary doctor an understanding of the physical mechanisms present at the moment of the trauma, as well as the reaction of the bone tissue involved in the traumatic process. The study and understanding of the mechanisms of bone tissue healing, the techniques and materials most indicated for osteosynthesis are essential for an adequate functional recovery of the patient. The main objective of this internship report was to conduct a review of the veterinary literature on the osteosynthesis of the appendicular skeleton in the pet clinic, having been addressed aspects such as prevalence and types of fractures by specific bone segments, physical processes involved in the fractures, types of bone healing, description of implants, therapeutic possibilities and possible complications. The internship was carried out at the CityVet clinic located in the city of Lausanne, Switzerland, where three patients submitted to osteosynthesis from March 4 to July 4, 2019, were followed. This work emphasizes the importance of the correct therapeutic approach of the cases of fracture in the clinic of pets and the necessity of constant updating of the clinician and veterinary surgeon involved in this type of treatment.
