The role of platelet-rich plasma in the world of fertility use of platelet-rich plasma in the endometrium : inicial of clinical trials

Abstract

Esta dissertação centra-se na preparação de um endométrio adequado para a realização de uma transferência embrionária, tendo como principal objetivo melhorar as taxas de implantação embrionária e de gravidez clínica utilizando algo que é fornecido pelo corpo da paciente, neste caso o plasma rico em plaquetas (PRP). O estudo piloto foi iniciado e continua a ser realizado na clínica IERA de Badajoz, em Espanha. Os pacientes incluídos têm de ter pelo menos uma tentativa de transferência de embriões falhada e serem provenientes de ovodoação ou embriões geneticamente testados. Devido a critérios de inclusão rigorosos e a desafios de recrutamento, o tamanho da amostra foi limitado. Devido a não haver dados suficientes de forma a concluir com resultados estatísticos que comprovam o objetivo do estudo até a defesa desta dissertação, foi considerado a necessidade de um estudo intensivo na literatura sobre o uso do PRP no endométrico, com dados estatísticos a comprovarem a sua eficácia. Foi realizada uma pesquisa sistemática de estudos publicados em inglês desde o início até junho de 2024 (sendo que os estudos apresentados consistem em datas mais recentes) em bases de dados como PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Science Diret e MEDLINE.This dissertation focuses on the preparation of a proper endometrium in other to do an embryo transfer, having the main purpose of improving embryo implantation and clinical pregnancy rates using something that is provide by the patient’s bodies, in this case platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The pilot study was initiated and continues to be conducted at the IERA clinic in Badajoz, Spain. Patients included in the study must have experienced at least one previous failure embryo transfer attempt and either be recipients of donated eggs or have genetically tested embryos. Due to strict inclusion criteria and recruitment challenges, the sample size was limited. Because there was not enough data to conclude with statistical results that prove the aim of the study until the defence of this dissertation, the need for an intensive study in the literature on the use of PRP in the endometrium was considered, with statistical data to prove its effectiveness. A systematically review of studies published in English from inception until June 2024 was made (the studies presented consist of more recent dates) in databases such as PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Science Direct and MEDLINE.
