Resumo
The present work describes the implementation of the new general secondary education curriculum in Timor-Leste, which has been sustained by the provision of continuous training for in-service teachers. The study is based on a qualitative case study and draws on data collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with three Portuguese trainers responsible for the Portuguese, Citizenship and Social Development and Themes in Literature and Culture subjects. Data suggests that didactic resources are still scarce and not delivered on time and that pedagogical practices are based on traditional models. Training provided is mainly focused on the resolution of tasks proposed in in the Teacher’s Guide and Student’s Textbook, as well as on the contents of specific subjects. It can be concluded that further training on the new curriculum should be provided to Timorese in-service teachers.
