The aim of this thesis is to study, in light of self-determination theory, two educational interventions, aimed at promoting active lifestyles among adolescents for long-term health behavior change and their associations with emotional and psychological well-being. The attainment of this objective is built around four key actions: analyze, discuss, validate scientifically, and reflect and make proposals to foster the promotion of an active lifestyle. Three papers and seven complementary studies, validated by scientific editorial boards and developed for analyzing the TOP (in a clinical setting) and PESSOA (in a school setting)interventions are presented. The main results showed that: a) peers support, the fulfillment of basic psychological needs and the endorsement of more autonomous forms of motivation toward physical activity are predictors of physical activity and quality of life; and, b) peer and peer support in séries with intrinsic motivation, are mediators that positively influence physical activity and quality of life. We may conclude that: a) we can positively influence the physical activity and the quality of life of adolescents through educational-based interventions; and, b) interventions that promote social environments that support more autonomous forms of motivation, improve the quality of life and the level of physical activity among adolescents.
