Monoparesia e monoplegia em cães: estudo descritivo de 11 casos clínicos

Resumo
Os termos monoplegia e monoparesia denominam, respectivamente, a perda total ou
parcial da função motora de um membro, resultantes de uma lesão neurológica.
As patologias neurológicas são situações particulares em que a reabilitação e a
fisioterapia têm uma importância fundamental na manutenção e recuperação da função.
O presente trabalho aborda a temática fisioterapia e reabilitação funcional em
pacientes monoplégicos ou monoparésicos, mais propriamente na espécie canina. Nesta é feita
uma breve abordagem bibliográfica sobre o tema, onde são referidas algumas das patologias
que podem levar à monoparesia ou monoplegia e respectivas metodologias, técnicas e meios
de tratamento fisioterapêutico. Posteriormente é realizada uma descrição de 11 casos clínicos,
alguns acompanhados no decorrer do estágio curricular do autor, no Hospital Veterinário da
Arrábida.
A amostragem incluída neste trabalho apresentou como critério de inclusão história
de monoplegia ou monoparesia, tendo sido todos os animais submetidos aos protocolos de
reabilitação e fisioterapia adoptados pelo Hospital Veterinário da Arrábida na altura.
De um modo geral e apesar das variações inerentes a cada caso, as terapêuticas
implementadas surtiram o efeito pretendido, nomeadamente a reabilitação funcional dos
pacientes.
Monoplegia and monoparesia refer to the total or partial, respectively, loss of the motor function of a limb caused by a neurological lesion. Neurological pathologies are particular situations in which rehabilitation and physical therapy are fundamental in maintenance and recovery of neurological function. This paperwork addresses the subject of physical therapy and rehabilitation in monoplegic or monoparesic canine patients. In this brief bibliographic review are mentioned some of the pathologies that can lead to monoparesia or monoplegia and methodologies, techniques and means of physical therapy and rehabilitation treatment for each. Further, a description of 11 cases is carried out, some of which were followed during the intership of the author, at the Hospital Veterinário da Arrábida. The sampling included in this study presented as admission criteria history of monoplegia or monoparesis, all of which were submitted to the protocols of rehabilitation and physical therapy adopted by the Hospital Veterinário da Arrábida at the time. In general, and despite inherent variations in each case, the therapies implemented had the desired outcome, wich was the functional rehabilitation of the patients.
