Avida de Dürer encerra a contradição de todos os humanistas. O período da aprendizagem até Dürer atingir o grau de Mestre, e a crise espiritual até ao seu encontro
com Lutero, representa o protótipo de um iniciado do século XVI. Dürer tem as suas
raízes na tradição neopitagórica e platónica que ligou a Itália da Renascença e o Norte
da Europa. Ele, como muitos outros, foi o agente de uma grande revolução espiritual
na arte, uma revolução que deu geometria à Reforma.
Dürer’s life encloses the contradiction of all humanists. Since his learning period to the degree of a Master, from the spiritual crisis till his meeting with Luther, Dürer represents the prototype of a sixteenth century initiate. Dürer has its roots in the neo-Pythagorean and Platonic tradition connecting the Renaissance Italy and the Northern Europe. He, like many others, was the agent of a great spiritual art’s revolution, a revolution that gave geometry to the Reform.
