Do cinema à narrativa seriada : um estudo da transposição do filme Psycho para a série Bates Motel

O caminho que percorremos na condução desse trabalho foi o de uma estrada árdua e desafiadora: com suas curvas perigosas, vias de mão dupla e o compromisso por parte do
condutor de tentar fazer as melhores escolhas, ainda que algumas mais arriscadas.
A proposta de investigação é analisar a transposição do filme Psycho - realizado em 1960 por Alfred Hitchcock - para a série Bates Motel, lançada em 2013 pela Universal Television. Primeiro, apresentamos o contexto cinematográfico e televisivo, de forma geral,
para depois trazer à tona os principais debates em torno do conceito de ‘adaptação’, passando tanto pela questão da fidelidade à ‘obra original’ quanto pelas ideias de ‘intertextualidade’ e
‘transtextualidade’. Como nossa análise está calcada nos cinco elementos básicos da ‘narrativa’,
também mostramos a visão de referenciados teóricos sobre esse amplo conceito.
Num segundo momento, nos dedicamos a explicitar a metodologia de investigação escolhida e a efetivamente estudar a transposição do filme para a série. Mas tendo em conta que
os Estudos em Adaptação estão num movimento de ebulição constante, não é nosso intuito formular dogmas. Nosso objetivo é encontrar possíveis respostas para as questões colocadas e, especialmente, contribuir para a área de conhecimento formulando novos enunciados.
Undertaking this work has been a journey through a rough and challenging road: dangerous curves, two-way paths, signs blurred by mist and the driver’s constant need to try to make the best choices, even if some of them might be riskier. The purpose of this investigation is to analyze the transposition of the film Psycho – directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960 – into the series Bates Motel, released in 2013 by Universal Television. From that starting point, we first present the general context regarding cinema and television, then bring up the main debates over the concept of ‘adaptation’, approaching issues such as fidelity to the ‘original work’, as well as the ideas of ‘intertextuality’ and ‘transtextuality’. Since our analysis is based on the five basic elements of ‘narrative’, we also show the view of theoretical references on this broad concept. A second moment is dedicated to explain the chosen research methodology and effectively analyze the transposition of the film into the series. But considering that Adaptation Studies always seem to be immersed in an effervescent movement of constant transformation, it is not our ambition to formulate dogmas or absolute truths. Our goal is to find possible answers to the questions posed and, especially, to contribute to this field of knowledge by formulating new statements.
