Paul of Tarsus was a key figure in the implementation and dissemination of Christianity throughout the world. The Apostle Paul also belongs to a group of notable and highly controversial individuals. Initially a great persecutor of Christianity, he became one of its greatest proponents after travelling to Damascus. He prioritized the Theology of the Cross and proclaimed his belief that Christ died and was resurrected to save us. His enthusiasm to spread his message and influence his followers at times caused him to overreact, which is evident in his writings. Paul’s words have probably undergone the most detailed analysis of all church documents and have generated the most controversy. The objective of this work is to attempt to understand why, with the growing influence of certain societal shifts in recent past decades, namely feminism, he has been labelled a misogynist. We begin with St. Paul’s epistles, as it is here that we find the most controversial language. Through an analysis of the contents of his letters set within the framework of the society in which he lived, we maintain, based on various supporting studies, that his writings showed his desire to disseminate the message of Christ, even if this purpose caused him to exceed rational limits in relation to women. In a world dominated by a patriarchal society, Paul showed no more hostility to women than he did to men. He was a Jew converted to Christianity, who maintained the Jewish ethic in his defense of a Church that was the same for all. It was due to Paul that Christianity became universal.
