Esta dissertação apresenta um estudo a respeito do ensino de língua portuguesa no ensino fundamental de escolas públicas de Santa Luz/PI, Brasil. A pesquisa objetivou identificar
os limites e os desafios do professor de língua portuguesa do ensino fundamental séries finais, e trazer algumas reflexões visando chamar a atenção para o atual contexto do
ensino de língua ofertado aos alunos das escolas públicas brasileiras. O estudo aponta
para a necessidade de mais aprofundamento dos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos de
ensino pelo professor, bem como das concepções de língua e concepções de aprendizagem, o que alude diretamente à questão da formação docente, seja ela inicial ou
continuada. O trabalho foi desenvolvido com professores de língua portuguesa, ensino
fundamental séries finais, do município de Santa Luz (PI), com alunos da 8ª série da rede
pública do referido município e pretendeu identificar os limites mais comuns ao professor
quanto ao ensino da língua portuguesa e quais os maiores desafios doravante para o mesmo; pretendeu também verificar como os alunos compreendem os ensinamentos de
aprendizagem em língua portuguesa a si direcionados.
The dissertation presented hereon is a study referring to the teaching of the Portuguese language in fundamental education in public schools in Santa Luz, Piauí, Brazil. The aim of the research was to identify the limits and challenges faced by teachers of the Portuguese language of the final years of the fundamental series, and to present some discussion about the present context of language teaching offered to students of Brazilian public schools. The study points towards the need for greater improvement of theoretic and methodological methods of teaching undertaken by the teacher, as well as towards conceptions of language use and of learning, which refers directly towards teacher education, be it in its initial phase, or continuing teacher training. The empirical work was carried out with teachers of the Portuguese language subject, of the final year students of the fundamental education series, in the Santa Luz municipality, in the State of Piauí, with 8th year series students of the referred to schools of the public area and municipality and it also intended to identify the more common limits faced by teachers of the Portuguese language and which were the greater challenges hereon for them. It also intended to substantiate with the students how do they understand and receive the teaching provided them for Portuguese language.
