masculino e 93 (48.2%) do sexo feminino.
idosos, 33 (17.1%) eram homens e 29 (15%) eram mulheres.
This research was aimed to determine how different are the three age groups of the life cycle studied here, depending on the positive emotions, negative emotions, life satisfaction and peace of mind. It was used a convenience sample, consisting of a total of 193 participants, 100 (51.8%) males and 93 (48.2%) were female. With regard to age, it was a sample aged over 18 years with no age limit, and the total average age of 48.35 years (SD = 17.50). Taking into account the division of age groups according to Papalia and his collaborators (2001), were studied here three of these groups, young adults from 18 to 39 years old, adults from 40 to 64 years old and elderly aged 65 and up, in the young adults group, 32 (16.6%) were male and 32 (18.6%) were female, in the adult group 35 (18.1%) were male and 32 (16.6%) were female, finaly in the elderly group 33 (17.1%) were male and 29 (15%) were female. We can tell by this that there was no significant association between gender and age group [χ2 (2) =.14; p= .933]. The instruments used were a demographic questionnaire, the Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985; translated version by Baptista, 2011), the Positivity Self Test (Fredrickson, 2009; translated version by Batista, 2011), the Peace of Mind Scale (Lee, Lin, Huang, & Fredrickson, 2012). The results showed that there is no significant association between gender and age group. After observing the data, it was found that life satisfaction, negative emotions, positive emotions and peace of mind vary significantly by age group. As for the correlation, there was a statistically significant relationship between all variables in the group of subjects aged 18 to 39 years. In the group aged 40 to 64 years there was a statistically significant correlation between all variables, with exception of the positive emotions with the negative emotions. In the group with ages equal to or greater than 65 years, also found a statistically significant correlation between all variables, where these correlations are stronger in this age group compared to the previous age group.
