o modelo conceptual da ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
Neurodegenerative Diseases (NDs) are chronic diseases that involve physical and psychological symptoms, such as anxiety. Anxiety can be triggered by symptoms associated with ND, such as neuropathic pain, fatigue, and disability, and psychological processes such as cognitive fusion, experiential avoidance, and living, according to the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) conceptual model. This cross-sectional exploratory study aims to explore the impact of potential predictors of anxiety, such as physical symptoms and psychological processes) in a sample of patients with ND, through a multiple linear regression model (MLR). The protocol of self-report questionnaires was administered to two independent samples: 9 patients diagnosed with ND and 198 participants from the general population without ND, or other associated neurological disorders. In the clinical group, significantly higher scores were observed in physical symptoms, experiential avoidance, engaged living, and anxiety symptoms in comparison to the non-clinical group. In the MLR model, cognitive fusion, neuropathic pain, disability and life commitment have emerged as significant predictors of 46% of anxiety variance in people with DN, which is of high relevance for the investigation and intervention aimed at these patients.
