This study had the objective to evaluate the intensity in the communication between parents and children, relating it with the degree of familiar conflicts in a descriptive perspective, with adolescents between 14 and 19 years of age, equally distributed in the elementary and high school levels in a public school in the city if Campina Grande-PB. We used in this research to evaluate the communication with the father and the mother, two inqueries as proposed by Parra and Oliva (2002). The first is an auto-applicable instrument, originally with 12 items, in which the adolescents indicated the frequency that the dialogue between them (parents and children) occurred. The other instrument, referring to the frequency of arguments between parents and children, also developed by Parra and Oliva (2002) was also applied. It was also applied a set of questions about their personal characteristics with the objective of getting to know their profiles. In this study the data were analyzed through SPSS (Version 15). According to the evaluation of the children, the mothers present better indicators of communications and participation than the fathers, the mother being the more solicited person. The data reflect the familiar structure in which the mother appears as the main responsible for the care and mediation of the family relations, whereas the father occupies a peripheral place. The adolescents also informed that they considered the familiar communication as something very important. These data confirmed what the authors pointed out in the study, that is, dialogue and negotiation – proposed paths in this dissertation so that the parents could share responsibilities in the relation with their children, with the objective of educating and guiding them and, therefore, pacifically diminishing the familiar conflicts.
