The global supplements market has been growing since 2018 and in 2021 reached 137 billion dollars (USD) and is projected to reach 185.1 billion USD in 2025. The general objective of this research is to analyze the consumption of dietary supplements (DS) among respondents from Portugal and Brazil. To achieve this general objective, the following objectives were established: to conceptualize supplements, to verify the profile of consumers, and to analyze data on the consumption of supplements by Portuguese and Brazilians. Supplements, as foodstuffs, are distinguished in the food chain in various forms, such as capsules, tablets, drinkable ampoules, syrups, drops, or shakes. According to Decree-Law no. 136/2003 (Portugal), AS should not be a substitute for a varied diet. Nor can AS claim prophylactic, disease-preventing or therapeutic properties. Collegiate Board Resolution (RDC) no. 243/2018 (Brazil) sets out the health requirements for AS and was considered a regulatory framework. The methodology adopted involved a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study, using an online questionnaire distributed on social networks and filled in by Brazilian and Portuguese supplement consumers, allowing the data collected to be analyzed using Microsoft Excel version 2021, Google Forms, and the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences - "BM® SPSS® Statistics" version 22. The results obtained showed that the female public is the biggest consumer of AS in the participants from Portugal (83.1%) and Brazil (66.4%), the pharmacy, in Portugal (43.1%) and Brazil (53.4%), is the preferred place to buy AS, the majority were aged between 36 and 50 in Brazil (33.2%) and Portugal (38.5%), with the predominant educational qualification being graduates in Brazil (52.2%) and Portugal (52.3%), and the location of the respondents was the south-east (85%) in Brazil and Lisbon (44.6%). Despite the sampling limitations, the results allow us to conclude trends and differences in the consumption habits of Brazilian and Portuguese participants. In particular, the vast majority of participants, more than 90 percent in both countries, consume SA, and more than half of the participants in both countries are satisfied or very satisfied with the results obtained from consuming SA. In Portugal, consumers say they are not aware of the health claims of AS, while in Brazil consumers claim to be aware; in Portugal, consumers consume for 1 to 3 months, while in Brazil they consume for more than 1 year.
