Resumo
Francisco de Holanda é um artista e teórico de arte português que viveu num período difícil de definir, entre o Renascimento e o Maneirismo, marcado por inúmeras contradições e mudanças que se reflectirão na sua obra artística e teórica. As consequências do Concílio de Trento deixarão a sua marca na produção artística em geral e na obra de Francisco de Holanda em particular, sobretudo na fase mais madura e tardia da sua actividade, pautada por valores contemplativos, ascéticos e religiosos.
Francisco de Holanda is a Portuguese artist and art theorist who lived in a period of time difficult to define, between the Renaissance and mannerism, marked by many contradictions and changes which will be reflected in his artistic and theoretical works. The consequences of the council of Trent will leavetheir mark on the artistic production in general and the work of Francisco de Holanda in particular, mainlyin the more mature and late phase of his activity, most lined by contemplative,religious and ascetics values of christian inspiration, as opposed to his youth, more influenced by the humanism and by his trip to Italy.
