Resumo
O cristianismo, desde os seus inícios, sentiu-se desafiado pela realidade histórica, social, econômica, cultural e religiosa, entre outras. Com o advento da modernidade, marcada pelo secularismo, ele não só perdeu seu importante lugar como formador de identidades, mas também se viu cercado pela ditadura do sistema comercial. Ele foi acusado por alguns pensadores como fator de atraso social. E se de um lado, o cristianismo, ao longo de todo este tempo, sentiu-se desafiado, e muitas vezes abertamente perseguido, por outro, tornou-se um elemento desafiador. Neste artigo pretendemos refletir sobre alguns destes desafios no contexto das peregrinações. Levamos aqui em conta as peregrinações que acontecem no Santuário do Bom Jesus da Lapa, Bahia, Brasil e que foram objeto de nosso estudo em vista da tese de doutoramento.
From its beginnings, Christianity, felt challenged by historical, social, economic, cultural and religious reality, among others. With the advent of modernity, marked by secularism, it not only lost its important place as an identity former, but it was also surrounded by the dictatorship of the commercial system. It was accused, too, by some thinkers as a factor of social backwardness. If on the one hand, Christianity, throughout all this time, felt challenged, and often openly persecuted, on the other, became a challenging factor. In this article we intend to reflect on some of these challenges in the context of pilgrimages. For our analisis we will tolk here about pilgrimeges that take place in the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Bahia, Brazil and which were the object of our studies in view of the doctoral thesis.
