A metodologia seguida incorporou métodos e técnicas qualitativas e quantitativas.
We intend to see how this research develops the independence process of institutionalized young people through the autonomy apartments. So we start with the following question: how the process of young people’s independence management it’s handled, through the of autonomy apartments. The range of apartments in the Casa Pia de Lisboa (CPL), where the research took place, constitute such a focused response in developing and training skills of young people by providing them with practical experience for the subsequent introduction into the life society. The permanence of young people in the apartments is characterized by the existence of a proximity to everyday reality similar to life outside the institution. To understand how to develop skills for the autonomy of young people it was followed the paradigm of comprehensive sociology in logic of progressive discovery and intelligibility of the problem in question. The methodology incorporated methods qualitative and quantitative techniques. The population studied it was youth people from 18 to 21 years old, male and female, in schooling process, residents in the autonomy apartments of the CPL. Research results showed that the independence process in the CPL, through the autonomy homes, provide skills training for autonomy after leaving the institution. In this process, there’s a contribution of the educators and psychologists through systematic monitoring and evaluation. Thus, the teacher responsible for the apartment where the young person and the accompanying psychologist are, teach the young people to manage their allowance, encourage young people to think for themselves, in particular, to choose the subject of the thematic session and learn to wake up alone. Young people make the management of the autonomy apartment. All these aspects are realized by the quality relationship of the young people and technicians set in the autonomy apartment. Finally, we present some success stories of young people who have left the autonomy apartments, according to the educator and psychologist of the “RAIA CPL” program team.
