Prevalência da patologia luxação de patela em cães

Abstract

A luxação de patela é uma causa comum de claudicação em cães de raça pequena. A luxação medial é mais comum que a lateral, em todas as raças. O tratamento cirúrgico é aconselhado em jovens e adultos sintomáticos. Existem diversas técnicas para a correção da luxação de patela e geralmente é necessária uma combinação de técnicas para conseguir a estabilização patelar. Foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo (2009-2013) em 58 cães com luxação de patela sujeitos a cirurgia. Os objectivos foram avaliar quais as técnicas cirúrgicas mais utilizadas em função do grau de luxação de patela apresentado, determinar a relação entre as características individuais dos animais amostrados e o facto da lesão ser unilateral ou bilateral e a luxação ser medial ou lateral e compará-las com estudos anteriormente publicados. Dos 58 cães amostrados, 54 (93%) apresentaram luxação medial e 4 (6,9%) luxação lateral de patela;2 (3,45%) apresentaram luxação traumática; 32 cães (55%) apresentaram luxação bilateral e 26 (44,8%) luxação unilateral. 3,45% (n=2) apresentaram luxação de Grau I, 29,3% (n=17) Grau II, 46,6%(n=27) Grau III e 10,3% (n=6) Grau IV. Cães de raça Indeterminada foram os mais representados na amostra (n=23), bem como animais do sexo feminino (n=34 fêmeas). Quanto aos objectivos gerais propostos para a realização deste trabalho, no que diz respeito às variáveis sexo, raça, idade e peso, concluímos que a nossa população foi semelhante às analisadas anteriormente por diferentes autores. Não foi possível, no entanto, verificar quais eram as técnicas cirúrgicas mais utilizadas em função do grau de luxação, pelo que podemos concluir que a escolha dessa técnica cirúrgica varia consoante a avaliação pré-cirúrgica, os achados intraoperatórios e as preferências do cirurgião.

The patellar luxation is a common cause of lameness in small breed dogs . The medial patellar luxation has been identified more common than lateral luxation in all breeds. Surgical treatment is recommended in both symptomatic young and adults. There are several techniques for the correction of patellar luxation and it is usually required a combination of techniques to achieve patellar stabilization . It was conduted a retrospective study (2009-2013) with 58 dogs with patellar luxation undergoing surgery. The objectives were to evaluate which the most used techniques depending on the degree of patellar luxation, to determine the relationship between individual characteristics of the sampled animals and the lesion was unilateral or bilateral and the luxation was medial or lateral and compare them with previously published studies. Of the 58 dogs, 54(93%) had medial luxation and 4(6,9%) lateral patellar luxation, 2 (3,45%) had traumatic luxation ;32 dogs (55 %) had bilateral dislocation and 26(44,8 %) had unilateral luxation. 3,45%(n=2) had luxation Grade I, 29,3%(n=17) Grade II, 46,6% (n=27) Grade III, and 10,3% (n=6) Grade IV. Unspecified breed dogs were the most represented in the sample (n=23) and female animals (n=34 females). Regarding the general objectives proposed for this work, in relation to sex, race, age and weight, we conclude that our population was similar to previously analyzed by different authors. It was not possible to see which were the most used techniques according to the degree of luxation and therefore it is concluded that the choice of the surgical technique varies depending on the pre-surgical evaluation, the intraoperative findings and the surgeon preference.
