quatro eram do sexo masculino.
In Portugal, the crime of domestic violence continues to be one of the most committed. The number of male victims has been increasing, being that in the year 2021, one in four were male. The National Republican Guard (GNR), as a criminal police body, is in the first line of intervention and in the reception of complaints related to the practice of this crime and in the assistance to its victims. This combination of factors gave rise to the general objective of understanding the perceptions of the military of the GNR on the various dimensions of the crime of domestic violence against men. In this sense, we used a quantitative methodology, with recourse to the questionnaire survey technique for data collection. The sample, of national scope (continent and archipelagos), is constituted by 839 soldiers of the GNR, who serve in generic operational functions, or specialized in domestic violence, and who perform functions in the Research and Support Units for Specific Victims (NIAVE) and in the Investigation and Inquiry Teams (EII). Some of the most relevant results indicate that most participants have inadequate perceptions regarding domestic violence against men in heterosexual relationships.
