Resumo
Em 1989, o psicanalista indiano Sudhir Kakar, enquanto preparava um ciclo de conferências para a universidade de Chicago, ao comentar incidentalmente sobre seu trabalho a respeito do grande místico Ramakrishna, chamou a atenção da filósofa francesa Catherine Clément, ao descrever seus sintomas. O livro de Pierre Janet (De l’angoisseà l’extase), que Catherine tinha em sua biblioteca, narrava a história da “louca” Madeleine, paciente de Janet por vinte anos, que apresentava fenômenos muito semelhantes aos do mestre indiano: êxtases, sintomas orgânicos e hábitos místicos. Havia apenas uma única diferença e que se constituía como viga mestra entre ambos:enquanto o místico vivia em Calcutá, a doente francesa foi hospitalizada durante longos anos no hospital da Salpetrière, por delírio místico. Este artigo é baseado no livro A louca e o santo e tem por objetivo demonstrar o quanto a cultura influencia no diagnóstico com base em fenômenos relacionados a estados alterados de consciência.
In 1989, sudhir Kakar, an indian psychoanalyst, was preparing a cycle of conferences for the university of chicago, when incidentally commenting on his work about the great mystic Ramakrishna, caught the French philosopher catherine clément attention, describing his symptoms. The Pierre Janet’s book (De l’angoisse à l’extase) that catherine had in his library, narrated the story of the “mad” madeleine, Janet patient for twenty years, which had very similar phenomena to the Indian master: ecstasies, organic symptoms and mystics habits. There was only one difference and that is constituted as a girder between them: while the mystic lived in calcutta, the French patient was hospitalized for many years at the salpetrière hospital, by mystic delirium. This article is based on the book The madwoman and the Holy (La Folle et le saint) and aims to demonstrate how culture influences the diagnosis based on phenomena related to altered states of consciousness
