A amostra incluiu
A consistência
demonstraram a validade divergente do instrumento.
Babies show sensitivity to communicate their motivations in interacting with their main caregivers. The way adults perceive this communication contributes to the behaviors they adopt with their children. A perception of negative intentionality is associated with parental maltreatment. The aim of this study was to adapt the “Infant Intentionality Questionnaire” for the Portuguese population. The sample included 312 adult participants (age: M = 37.24; SD = 8.77), who responded to the research protocol through a digital platform or in printed format. A two-factor structure was found, corresponding to positive and negative intentionality. Total internal consistency was very good (α = .83), and, regarding sensitivity, it can be concluded that the questionnaire allows for the identification of variations in the perception of intentionality. The results demonstrated the divergent validity of the instrument. In the validity of known groups, an effect of education was observed: participants who attended higher education had higher averages in positive intentionality. The male gender showed higher levels of negative intentionality. The results indicate that this questionnaire is reliable and valid for measuring adults' perceptions of intentionality.
