Resumo
Esta dissertação foi realizada no âmbito da conclusão do Mestrado Integrado em
Medicina Veterinária da Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias e tem como
objetivo o desenvolvimento do tema anomalias vasculares de resolução cirúrgica em animais
de companhia. Inclui uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema e apresentação e discussão de
quatro casos clínicos acompanhados durante o estágio curricular realizado no Anicura Restelo
Hospital Veterinário em Lisboa, Portugal.
As anomalias vasculares são pouco comuns em cães e gatos, sendo que muitas não se
traduzem em sinais clínicos. Possuem apresentações clínicas e métodos de diagnóstico
distintos, e nem todas têm indicação terapêutica; dentro das alterações passíveis a intervenção
médica, apenas uma minoria pode ser corrigida de forma cirúrgica, tendo as restantes apenas
possibilidade de tratamento conservador. O presente estudo foca-se nos procedimentos
cirúrgicos vasculares que, devido a alterações anatómicas complexas, requerem planeamento
exaustivo e pleno conhecimento da técnica pelo cirurgião. Ainda assim, surgem ocasionalmente
complicações imprevistas, cuja descrição permite o aperfeiçoamento da técnica.
Os procedimentos realizados e descritos nesta dissertação incluem a colocação de anel
constritor ameroide e ligadura com banda celofane de shunts portossistémicos por laparotomia,
laqueação do ducto arterioso persistente e laqueação do ducto torácico por toracotomia.

This dissertation was carried out as a conclusion of the Integrated Master’s in Veterinary Medicine at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias and aims to develop the theme vascular anomalies of surgical resolution in companion animals. It includes a bibliographic review on the subject and presentation and discussion of four clinical cases followed during the curricular internship held at Anicura Restelo Hospital Veterinário in Lisbon, Portugal. Vascular anomalies are uncommon in dogs and cats, and many do not translate into clinical signs. They have different clinical presentations and diagnostic methods, and not all have therapeutic indication; among the alterations that are subject to medical intervention, only a minority can be surgically corrected, with the rest having only the possibility of conservative treatment. The present study focuses on vascular surgical procedures that, due to complex anatomical changes, require exhaustive planning and full knowledge of the technique by the surgeon. Even so, unforeseen complications occasionally arise, the description of which allows for the improvement of the technique. The procedures performed and described in this dissertation include placement of an ameroid constrictor ring and ligation with a cellophane band of portosystemic shunts by laparotomy, ligation of the persistent ductus arteriosus and ligation of the thoracic duct by thoracotomy.
