This thesis explores the interplay between training load, fatigue, and recovery in elite volleyball athletes, aiming to optimize performance. Through seven distinct studies, both review-based and empirical, it provides a broad understanding of training load monitoring and its implications. The narrative and systematic reviews establish a foundation by examining external and internal training loads, highlighting the limitations of current metrics and emphasizing the need for integrated monitoring strategies. Empirical studies analyse neuromuscular fatigue, perceptual well-being, and recovery during in-season periods, revealing key relationships between training loads and recovery across biological, psychological, and social dimensions. Key findings underscore the importance of holistic monitoring approaches, integrating objective metrics like countermovement jump variables with subjective recovery assessments. Position-specific demands and the impact of congested match schedules are also discussed, offering practical recommendations for tailored training and recovery protocols. The thesis emphasizes the need for individualized strategies to manage acute and chronic training loads effectively, enhancing athlete readiness and reducing injury risks. Contributing to both scientific knowledge and practical applications, this thesis provides actionable insights for coaches and practitioners. Its findings lay the groundwork for future research, advancing the understanding of performance optimization and sustainable workload management in high-performance volleyball.en
