Radiologia na clínica de pequenos animais : avaliação da sua utilidade como meio auxiliar de diagnóstico

A Radiologia tem sido frequentemente utilizada como meio auxiliar de diagnóstico
nas espécies felina e canina em centros de atendimento médico veterinários (CAMV).
Este trabalho pretende contribuir para o conhecimento e investigação da utilidade da
Radiologia tendo, para isso, sido realizado um estudo que tentou responder a várias questões
sobre a real utilidade deste exame na prática clínica. Esta dissertação foi desenvolvida no
âmbito do estágio curricular do Mestrado Integrado de Medicina Veterinária da Universidade
Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias, que se realizou entre Março de 2011 e Junho de
2011 no Hospital dos Animais, na Ramada.
Sendo o objectivo geral avaliar a utilidade da realização de estudos radiográficos,
foram objectivos específicos a análise, comparação e determinação de diferenças,
relacionadas com as variáveis espécie, peso e género do animal.
Através deste estudo concluiu-se não existir associação estatisticamente significativa
entre a avaliação dos raios-X (RX) e qualquer uma das variáveis, à excepção do género do
animal em que se identificou maior utilidade para o reencaminhamento do caso para outros
meios auxiliares de diagnóstico em machos do que em fêmeas (8 machos e 0 fêmeas
reencaminhados). Esta associação foi estatisticamente significativa (p=0,002).
Radiology has been frequently used as an auxiliary diagnostic method in feline and canine veterinary centers. With this work we intended to contribute to the knowledge and research on the radiological usefulness. This study was realized in order to evaluate the real usefulness of this exam in veterinary practice. This work was written as part of the curricular traineeship for “MestradoIntegrado de MedicinaVeterinária of UniversidadeLusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias”, which took place between March 2011 and June 2011 at “Hospital Veterinário dos Animais”, in Ramada. The general objective was to evaluate the usefulness of radiographic studies, and for that we analyzed, compared and determined if there were differences, with specific animal variables such as specie, weight and gender. Through this study, we concluded that there were no statistic significant association between the evaluation of the X- rays (RX) and any of the variables, except animal sex, which was identified to have more usefulness in terms of leading the case to other auxiliary diagnostic methods in males than in females (8 males and 0 females). This association was statistically significant (p=0,02).
