Texto da Oração De Sapientia proferida em Outubro de 1995, na Universidade de
Aveiro, por ocasião do 8º Centenário do Nascimento de S. António de Lisboa. Depois
de esboçadas as principais fases da formação escolar e religiosa em Lisboa e em
Coimbra, mostra-se como o futuro santo decidiu abraçar a ordem franciscana.
Tornou-se pregador notável, atento às questões sociais da época. A tradição popular
acolheu-o, desde muito cedo, e continua a festejá-lo efusivamente. Também os poetas
o cantam com frequência nos seus poemas.
Text from the speech De Sapientia made in October 1995, at the University of Aveiro, during the 8th centenary of the Birth of St. Anthony of Lisbon. After outlining the most significant phases of his scholarly and religious formation in Lisbon and Coimbra, it is shown how the futuresaint decided to embracethe Franciscan order. He became a remarkable preacher, attentive to thesocial issues of thetime. The populartradition welcomed him from very early on and continues to effusively celebrate him. Poets also commemorate him frequently in their poems.
