Resumo
Com o presente trabalho pretendeu-se conhecer de que forma a terapia com cavalos influência a funcionalidade de crianças com perturbações do espectro do autismo (PEA), nomeadamente para facilitar o desenvolvimento e aquisição de comportamentos adaptativos (CA). Entende-se como CA a capacidade do indivíduo de responder de modo funcional tal como é esperado para a sua idade, aos desafios do seu quotidiano. A maioria dos indivíduos com PEA apresenta défices consideráveis ao nível da CA, revelando um perfil caracterizado por atrasos significativos na socialização, comunicação e competências da vida diária.
A terapia com cavalos surge como um método terapêutico baseado em princípios técnicos e pedagógicos, utilizando uma abordagem multidisciplinar nas áreas da saúde, educação e integração social na procura da recuperação e desenvolvimento biopsicossocial de pessoas com necessidades educativas especiais (NEE).
Assim, neste trabalho, serão abordados os fundamentos inerentes aos conceitos de hipoterapia, equitação terapêutica e atrelagem adaptada (HEA), perturbações do espectro do autismo (PEA) e comportamentos adaptativos (CA).
Para responder à problemática em questão, desenvolveu-se um estudo exploratório, metodologia mais adequada em investigações de temas pouco divulgados. Pretendemos assim, contribuir, embora de maneira muito limitada, para um melhor conhecimento deste assunto. Utilizamos uma abordagem descritiva e interpretativa, num paradigma de carácter essencialmente qualitativo.
A conclusão deste trabalho evidenciou a relação positiva entre a criança e o cavalo no que concerne à aquisição de CA.
This project seeks to understand how therapy using horses, influences and facilitates the development and acquisition of adaptive behaviors in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Adaptive behaviors are understood as the ability of the individual to respond functionally as expected by their given age cohort. Most individuals with ASD vary significantly in the quantity and quality of adaptive behaviors deficits, which may include: revealing a profile characterized by poor efficiency level of socialization and/or communication and daily living delays. As a result, it was considered pertinent to review these areas, to gather a more appropriate intervention with this population. Therapy using horses emerges as a therapeutic method based on technical and pedagogical principles, which uses horses in a multidisciplinary approach in the areas of health, education and social integration, in order to seek recovery and biopsychosocial development of people with special educational needs. Therefore, the focus of this research will be on fundamentals inherent to the concepts of hippotherapy, therapeutic riding and driving adapted, and how it affects youths with ASD and their adaptive behaviors. To respond to the problem in question, it was developed an exploratory study, the most appropriate to the study of contemporary phenomena embedded in contexts of real life methodology through an interpretive approach, a paradigm of qualitative and emergent nature.
