The present study comes within the scope of the Integrated Masters in Veterinary Medicine at the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies of Lisbon - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and aims to establish a relationship between the results obtained by the application of the Qualitive Behavior Assessment (QBA) protocol and the productive performance in dairy cows. The methodology used in this work considered the application of the Welfare Quality Assessment Protocol for Cattle and within this the Appropriate Behavior principle - Qualitative Behavior Assessment, due to the importance that they have assumed in recent years as a way of perceiving Animal Welfare. The present study started from the general consideration of Animal Welfare, through the application of the QBA Protocol, and sought to relate it to the productivity of the animals, while trying to understand to what extent the extra-routine handling of the animals had a positive or negative effect on their productivity. In pursuit of this objective, ten audits were carried out, always on the same dairy farm, with special focus on a group of high production animals, in a total of two hundred and fifty animals. Of the ten audits, five were carried out on days when the animals were subject to weekly reproductive management and the other five on days when the animals maintained the routine without any changes. The collected data only allowed to conclude that on days that the animals aren’t subject to reproductive management, when there is no movement of operators in the parks and when the ambient temperature is mild showed a better emotional state, translating into greater individual and/or colective milk production. However, of all the established numeric correlations related to the quantity and quality of milk and animal behaviour just the relationship between average daily production andprotein content in milk was considered. Therefore, it is concluded that an increase in the average daily production of milk leads to an increase in the amount of protein in the milk.
