Currently, in music teaching, the humanistic aspects of teaching and the active participation of the student in the teaching and learning process are valued. Therefore, starting from the curriculum as a guiding document, it is necessary to consider the context of application, in planning and implementation. In this context, it is essential to analyse and select the pedagogical strategies to be applied in Professional Music Courses, the focus of our study. Thus, this study has the general objective of analyzing the effectiveness of individual and group teaching and learning strategies, applied to musical practice and performance, regarding collaborative work and artistic development of students in the 7th, 8th, and 9th years of the Basic Instrument Course, in the perception of teachers and students of a Professional School of Music, in the district of Aveiro. The research is a case study, using a qualitative methodology, with analysis of quantitative data, from student surveys, and descriptive analysis of qualitative data, from teacher interviews. Overall, it is concluded that, for teachers and students, strategies of motivation, collaboration, and regular study of diverse repertoire, applied to the practice of the musical instrument, individually and in groups, can promote more collaborative work and educational success, and the development of students´performance. These strategies are effective, as they develop the pleasure of playing, with teachers´guidance, and reinforce the active participation of the student, in collaboration between students and teachers. In addition, it is confirmed that there is a good working environment, in a dynamic School, with several musical projects.
