integral.
This work examines the symbolic essence of the Grail myth, the degree of influence exerted by this myth in portuguese culture and spirituality, and how much this influence can help us to understand the particularities of portuguese mythical-spiritual thought, essentially in its aspect gnostic and esoteric. For this, the pagan sources of the myth are investigated, as well as the Islamic transmission of its esoteric symbolism, its Christianization, and the introduction and circulation of Brittany's matter in the portuguese medieval courts. Then, the mythical-historical elements used by certain literary circles to give Portugal the eschatological status of Portugral or Porto do Graal are discussed. Finally, the residues of the Arthurian legends in the epic poetry of Camões and Pessoa are analyzed, focusing primarily on the symbolism of the initiatic crossing of waters towards the overseas, the Other World, where time and space are different, with a view to disembarking in the Grail Kingdom and revealing to the world the “New Eucharist”, which is the union of the man-god with himself, the anthropos of Jungian mitananalysis; man, in short, interior, spiritual, integral.
