Impacto da psicoterapia no bem-estar e vida pessoal : a perspetiva de terapeutas

Enquanto contexto profissional de atuação, a psicoterapia é particularmente exigente,
nomeadamente pelo pobre reconhecimento social, pelas condições de trabalho muitas
vezes deficientes e pelo pressuposto envolvimento da pessoa do terapeuta na relação com
os seus clientes. Objetivos: Neste estudo de caso múltiplo, de natureza qualitativa e caráter
exploratório, pretendemos compreender qual o impacto de fazer psicoterapia no bem-estar
e nas dimensões pessoais da vida dos terapeutas, na perspetiva dos próprios. Método:
Foram realizadas 14 entrevistas semiestruturadas, criadas para o propósito do estudo, a um
conjunto de terapeutas portuguesas com prática clínica regular, em modalidade individual
com adultos. Todas as participantes consentiram a sua participação informada no estudo. A
análise dos dados foi realizada utilizando a metodologia de análise temática com o apoio
do software NVivo 10. Resultados: Os resultados indicaram a identificação, por parte das
terapeutas, de consequências positivas e/ou negativas decorrentes da prática profissional da
psicoterapia, bem como a necessidade de recorrerem a estratégias para minimizar o
impacto sentido da profissão no seu bem-estar e vida pessoal. Conclusões: As implicações
que esta profissão pode ter na vida dos terapeutas deve ser alvo de atenção, e a formação e
treino para lidar com o impacto sentido é fundamental para o bem-estar e dimensões da
vida pessoal dos terapeutas.
As a professional context of action, psychotherapy is particularly demanding, namely because of the poor social recognition, the often deficient working conditions and the presupposed involvement of the therapist’s person in the relationship with their clients. Objectives: In this multiple case study, qualitative nature and exploratory caracter, we intend to understand the impact of doing psychotherapy on the well-being and personal dimensions of therapists' lives, from their own perspective. Method: Fourteen semi structured interviews, created for the purpose of the study, were conducted to a group of Portuguese therapists with regular clinical practice, in individual mode as an adults. All participants consented to their informed participation in the study. The data analysis was created using the thematic analysis methodology with the support of NVivo 10 software. Results: The results indicated the identification, on the therapists, of positive and/or negative consequences arising from the professional practice of psychotherapy, as well as the need to resort to strategies to minimize the felt impact of the profession on their well being and personal life. Conclusions: The implications that this profession can have on the therapists' lives should be the focus of attention, and the development and training to deal with the felt impact is fundamental for the well-being and dimensions of the therapists' personal lives.
