homens reclusos.
The main objective of the present study was to analyze the role of empathy in social representations regarding the parenting of male prisoners. The study sample consisted of 336 participants, mostly female (88.7%), aged between 18 and 61 years (M= 30.87; SD= 7.57). Data collection took place online, using the following instruments: Sociodemographic Questionnaire; Maternal Behavior Q-Sort (MBQS) and the Empathy Scale. The results suggest that the parenting representations of inmate adults are significantly less favorable compared to ideal parenting representations. Women scored higher on representations about “ideal” parenting, as well as individuals with parental experience and individuals with higher levels of empathy. However, empathy was not significantly associated with negative representations of male prisoners. The results of this study contributed to a greater understanding of the social representations of parenting in risky contexts, namely in relation to male prisoners.
